Welcome to my newest blog! From here on out I will be documenting my training and progress towards running in the 2013 Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, D.C. This will be my second marathon, and first MCM.
Honestly, I never planned to run in this race. After my first marathon in 2011 I said I wasn't sure that I would run another marathon. Running another one was not on my to-do list (anytime soon at least) but more or a last minute decision. I have friends who talked about running MCM but I really was not interested in it, even though it seemed like it was all everyone was talking about. I have been perfectly happy with training for half marathons and even shorter distances. Being in my first year of teaching kindergarten I have found it particularly difficult to train for anything more than 13.1 miles, and even that was difficult enough!
So one evening I was on the computer and thought, "So what is so great about this Marine Corp. Marathon??" I went to the website and I then went, "OOOhhhhhh!!!!!! Now I get it!" Although I cannot explain just what it is, I admired the look on everyone's face on the page. Pure joy is the best way I can describe it. There were pictures of marines at water stops and long lines of spectators on the marathon route. It looked like everyone was having a great time and I thought "Yeah, I gotta have a part in that!"
But here is the problem... this was about two weeks after registration had closed. So now what? If you know me even a little bit, you know that I am a professional procrastinator so deciding to even look into MCM this late is not really a surprise. The only way I would be able to get into the race would be to run as a charity runner. I found a long list of organizations to run for and I ultimately decided to run for The Fisher House. Even in the begining stages of fundraising, they have been nothing but supportive!
I begin this blog as a way to keep everyone connected to "what's next" in my crazy plan of fundraising! Check out the tabs at the top for current training goals, fundraising goals, and challenges that I will propose to you all!
This is sure to be a wild ride!
